Using Your Credit Card to Buy a New Computer

There are a few things to keep in mind when you use your credit card to buy a new computer.

First of all, you want to ensure that the limit on your credit card is sufficient for the purchase you’re going to make. You also want to ensure you have some room to move on your card, so that when you have an unexpected expense you’re not up for an overdraft fee.

Secondly, think about the interest you will be paying. Do you have a number of interest fee days? Some cards for instance have 55 days interest fee. When will you be repaying your purchase? What if you have unexpected expenses and are not able to repay the amount in full?

Thirdly, if you use an airline points credit card you will get some frequent flyer airline points. When will you transfer these to your frequent flyer account? Do you have an automatic transfer system in place? Considering that computers can be an expensive purchase, you may get quite a few frequent flyer points.

Fourthly, are there any other options? How about getting a personal loan? Or lending some money from friends or family? How about saving up before purchasing? Especially in the last case you may even get some newer technology for a cheaper price!

Lastly, think about how you will use your computer. Is there any way that you can earn some money with it? Could you list a few things you no longer need on ebay and repay your credit card faster?
