In its simplest form, the laptop video card is fitted to a computer containing the necessary video memory and other electronics to provide a bitmap display.
The laptop video card can vary in the resolution (number of pixels) and number of colors they can display, and in the refresh rate they support. These parameters are also limited by the monitor to which the adaptor is connected. A number of such display standards, e.g. SVGA, have become common and different software requires or supports different sets.
There are a number of different brands of the laptop video card. A number of different manufacturers product laptop video card products. There is, in reality, little disparity in the price range from one company to the next, however. There can be differences in the functioning of a particular laptop video card, though. As a consequence, and as with any computer-related purchase, a person needs to do at least some basic research before making a purchase of a laptop video card.
